large cities

I'm still trying to get a handle on the game implications of large cities. If it's not part of your secret strategy, please share your thoughts.

First observations
  • "3-radius" cities have more than twice the tiles of "2-radius" cities (45 vs 21).
  • Wonders and improvements that affect a single city will have an even larger effect
  • Without a unit, city sight distance is smaller than the workable area. This leads to problems selecting tiles to work in the outermost ring of tiles.
  • More widely spaced cities create a more porous border. Defensive units will need to be spread a couple cities deep into national borders.
