How to get Freeciv21 and how to connect (in English)

Haldric plays the 2nd Finnish game played in 2023 (Suomipeli2023b) and made these instruction to help people to get the client and how to connect and talk on the game. There will be an English translation of this on another thread. Thanks Haldric for the instructions!


1) Downloading the Freeciv21 Installation Package
Windows:

2) Connecting to (for example) Suomipeli2023b
Open the installed Freeciv21 client.

Click "connect to network game."

Fill in the following fields:

Connect: longturn.net

Port: 5063 (or if it's a different game, the specific port defined by the admin)

Username: Your username on longturn.net, including letter case.

Click connect.

Now, type the password below the username; it's the same password as on the longturn.net site.

Click connect again after entering the password.

If you're playing for the first time, open a new window and type /take (your username), for example, /take Player if your username is Player.

3) Communication in the game
If you don't use Discord or the person you want to talk to doesn't use it, Freeciv's client has a chat feature. In the lower right corner of the chat, there is an icon resembling a megaphone or a speech bubble. Clicking it will toggle between the two.

The speech bubble icon means you are speaking publicly, and the megaphone means you are speaking only to allies, i.e., those with whom you have formed an alliance or as preset in the game (Suomipeli2023b does not have alliances preset).
If you want to send private messages, type the person's username followed by a colon and a space, for example:
Player: Hello there.

This way, only the username Player will receive your message.

You can also ask for help with using the client and playing in the chat since turns are 23 hours long.
