Re: Game start date

This is a reminder that if you don't confirm you will not take part in the game.

Also reading and following the rules is mandatory.

Re: Game start date

I'll be on vacation until August 3rd likely without access to freeciv. I hope the start is delayed.

My hope is so big as your but i dont think it is good to delay start to 50 people once the start date was written.

Re: Game start date

The first turn will probably be longer than normal turns. Maybe that helps a bit. You can also look for someone to delegate. Maybe someone who is not playing the game would be willing to do it?

The first turn is 3*23h I suppose?

I would have preferred the game starting only in September but since the starting date has been announced, it's probably best to stick with it.

Re: Game start date

The first turn is 3 days as always, so it's not that bad. I don't want to postpone the start less than a week from the start date, but there seem to be active signups every day, so we'll see.

OK, in that case I'll take my laptop with me to vacation.

Re: Game start date

If you have an android phone/tablet you should try using Complete Linux Installer or Linux Deploy to run a simple linux desktop with freeciv. Its much more convenient when travelling.  I do most of my turn on the train to/from work and even travelling around SEAsia I never missed more than a couple of days.

Both have pros and cons.  Linux installer uses pre prepared images, which get corrupted quite easily when downloading or copying. .. but it has a nicer launcher and terminal.  I have an image all set up with freeciv 2.3 if anyone wants it.

Linux Deploy builds the linux image piece by piece directly from the repository so you always get an up to date version. It also allows you to choose what kind of desktop front end you want (xfce runs nice and fast on s3) which is better than the options available for Linux Installer. However it has some issues with root password (for some flavours of linux there is no password (!) and others dont let know what it is. ..)

Well worth trying if you want to play freeciv on the move. Only issue is that freeciv 2.5 is not yet available as a package so will have to be compiled on your phone, which can be a real pain.

Re: Game start date

Hello!

This would be my first longturn game. I have both Freeciv 2.3.5 and 2.4.2 installed for Windows, but I haven't figured it out how to join this game through my Freeciv client. If someone could PM me with a description I might have missed on the longturn website I would be more than humbled.

Thanks!

I want to delay the start by a week, since we have around two signups per day.

If it follows the usual, lt33.longturn.org port 5033.

Re: Game start date

As mentioned above; Linux image for use with Complete Linux Installer on android devices.
https://spideroak.com/browse/share/Lord_P/stuff

Its Fedora 19 with Freeciv 2.3.4 installed and ready to go. Also set it up with LT33 ruleset for practice (8xAI and no unitwaittime) so hopefully I wont fuck up the start of the game this time tongue
VNC and root passwords are simply: fedora

(At some point I will get round to making a version with 2.3, 2.4 and 2.5 if they compile properly)

Re: Game start date

I shouldn't have delayed the start. Apparently some players enjoy a bit of drama and delayed signing up until the last moment. Oh well. We start on Monday.

Re: Game start date

I don't find any option in my Windows Freeciv client to select the longturn server. Pls send me any info concerning this, I want to play, but I have absolutely no idea how to enforce my client to join this.

Never mind, I got angry and solved it.
Please disregard my last comment. But it is not fair to show actual textboxes where I should type in grey so I believed are inactive.

Re: Game start date

Yeah, if you have the correct port and address (5033 and lt33.longturn.org) and still can't connect, you should check if your client is 2.3 or not. If not, then you will have to change it to 2.3.x since 2.2 or 2.4/2.5 will not work.

I'm using 2.3.4 Windows client and have no problems.

Re: Game start date

You can download the latest 2.3 client here:

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/free … e?download - Windows

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/free … g?download - Mac OSX

As for Linux, i'm not really the person to ask. Presumably it can be downloaded from an RPM repository.
