Hi all,
Since swordsmen don't have the marine flag, shouldn't they be obsoleted by musketeers instead of marines? Else they end up being useless between gunpowder and amphibious warfare, which is quite a long time.

Swordsmen were obsoleted by Riflemen in LT44, and it annoyed me greatly. Swordsmen are useless once Muskets come around and yet can't turn into anything better until many techs later.Wahazar wrote:Swordsmen have higher attack than musketeers (however less HP), maybe make obsolete by riflemen?
Generally whole replacement path in civ is invalid, including warriors to musk. or cavalry to armor.
4 Attack 10HP is no match for 3 Defense, 20HP. So long as all fights are to the death, doubling the HP has roughly the same effect as doubling the attack strength.
Another oversight in LT44 was that Chariots and Elephants were not obsoleted by Knights, despite Knights being superior in every way.

Of course, upgrade warriors to musketeers is somewhat cheaty...cgalik wrote:I think warriors need to be obsoleted earlier than musks for sure. I think even phalanx would be fine. But at least pikemen.
Pikemen are OK. Phalanx are too early to replace cheap warriors, which are required to provide martial law at the beginning of the game.
