Salvaging LT44

Post by Hans_Lemurson »

Some members of blue team have declared defeat before the game has even begun. This annoys me. I have invested a month into this game, and was having fun getting to know this world and learning its strategies. Then just when the game was "getting good", I learn that it's going to abruptly end.

Now, I acknowledge that it's more fun to be on the winning side, and I acknowledge that my Red Team has had success on every front and pulled a nasty technological lead with the Great Library/Philosophy combination. Yes we are winning. But is the game over on Turn 34? NO. It has barely begun, and I don't want to throw away a month's worth of preparation time. It would be nice to actually play a real game with this ruleset.

So I want to open up the following discussion: How can LT44 be Salvaged?

What would it take to keep this game going? I want to continue the game.

Should we reshuffle nations and players to get better skill balance?
Should we alter teams to restore competitiveness?
Should I join Blue Team, take over the Slavs, and show them how to fight with dignity?

I'm open to all sorts of ideas. We have a good game going here, let's not throw it away.

Just had another idea: what if Red Team and Blue Team switch nations? Red Team gets to sort out all the problems, and Blue Team gets to wield the power that defeated them.

Its just a theory but since it was a reason that prevented me from playing. Shoudnt tech trading be turned off? Blue team still would have had the chance to attack a technological weak enemy for example. I think its the egalitarian approach that spoils the game.

Tech sharing in an alliance (aka team) would be expected and was a major part of the red team's strategy. Different people were researching different techs and then we had to debate the rollout of that tech to prevent making to too cheap so team blue could earn it fast. I would not call that egalitarian.

Tech trading for the team was implemented as an alternative for pooled research.

Tech trading added another dimension to the game. I think it should be implemented in all team games, as long as techleak is on, too.

How many active (current + coming back) players are on each team? If Blue had 9 nations controlled by 3 players, then let's remove the surnumerous and split Red in two as sigur suggested. A 3-team game could solve balance problems as it would be more dynamic.

In the meantime, several (not all!) Red players involved in zoltan's downfall would be willing to stop progress on this front, to let Blue sort out the mess.

I was enjoying this game despite a slow start...
Personally I would be ok with just restarting with the same rules/setup.
Redistribute the currently active players into new equal teams.

Lord_P, we can use the same setup and the same ruleset for a new game and start over. LT45 is already based on LT44 and only the teams need to be edited. Obviously we can't use the same teams. So... If people want we can continue LT44 on LT45 starting really soon. Propose teams and team selections.

I suggest a 5 team game with the same basic setup. Team captains picking up the team members. Please suggest 5 team captains assuming this would be ok to you?

With all the "unfair teams" talk from LT44, I suggest non-team game so it can get started ASAP. Players can make their own teams dynamically in game like normal.

I also suggest no tech trading.

This!

And not this :D

Actually, I'd like to see the thing we tried in... was it LT40? No tech trading by diplomacy, but possible with diplomats and spies, so that you can cooperate and have some sort of exchange, but at a cost.
