Artillery (cannons, catapults...) to really be artillery?

Post by Corbeau »

So, some of you know that I'm creating a ruleset where, among other things, I have a artillery-class units and they all have Bombard flag: they damage enemy unit but don't kill it and in return don't get damaged themselves.

This includes Howitzers, Artillery, Cannon, Catapult, but also Archers.

I think this brings some combat diversity into the game and also more realism. (Yes, realism is my mantra.)

How about trying this out in LT40?

I understand that the test game has already started and that this may be a short notice, but just asking to see what people think about this. I myself wouldn't mind a further delay for, perhaps, another test game, but others may so... Just asking :)

Maybe change upkeep so that there is no flood of units like this, to have upkeep for them 2 or more shields? (Maybe even 5 for Howitzers?)

Maybe... Nice idea.

It might really change the game, but one way to do this and test how it would work could be adding new units and keeping the old ones. Something like xxx howitzer, able to bombard but the cost would be double to the normal one. I would be really careful with this stuff because those act like bombers and with bombers you can clear any city really fast.

There will be more test games. Meanwhile check the test game:

Yes, but then you give them less firepower and make them more expensive, both in production and maintenance.

I have a feeling the time is ripe for a fully experimental game ;)
