New type of team game

Post by Corbeau »

This is just an idea I had for a while, it is yet to be seen how it would be implemented technically.

So, a game where a team runs ONE nation. As a consequence, the timeout MAY be decreased so that there are 2, 3 or maybe even 4 turns per day, but not necessarily.

There are two variants how this running would be organised: one is where players switch during the day (if there are three players and three turns per day, each gets an 8 hrs slot) and basically play the game as usual. This would require - or strongly stimulate - that the players come from different parts of the world. The second is actually taking up roles such as: science, infrastructure (city production), units (combat), units (terraforming), "foreign affairs" etc. (or a combination of some) In that case the players would effectively be a cabinet where they plan the overall strategy together and each of them runs his sector relatively independently.

A technical obstacle may be that it's impossible for more players being connected to the same nation at the same time.

Anyway, this is a general idea. Any thoughts?

The closest thing I can imagine is a team game with some people specializing on certain tasks. Or maybe having shared research.

Still, is it possible for more people to be logged into the same nation at the same time?

I don't think more than one player can connect to one nation at a time. At least I haven't ever heard about something like that done.

I like the concept. It helps solve the issue that the later game becomes really time intensive.

Just thinking out loud: what if all players are divided into teams of 2 players, where one is flagged as 'military' player and the other one as 'city manager'. The city manager controls all cities, workers, settlers, migrants, caravans and sets science targets, tax rates, government. Whenever he builds a military unit, it is automatically reassigned to the military player of that team. There is code for reassigning units (like when you steal a worker), and if you allow the reassigned units to remain without homecity then maybe it's possible to reassign them to the military player?

If these duo-teams can then be assigned to superteams (teams of teams), then you could have several nations working together, where each consists of a fighter and a builder.
