Any estimate of when LT31 starts?

Post by IllvilJa »

Preparations for the start of LT31 seem to be in process, which is nice news.

This means the time is about right for a 'recruiting spree' among friends of mine, selected gaming communities etc. All in the name to increase the amount of fodder, l33t-rulers, warmongers, sim-citizen-rulers etc in the upcoming game. (100+ players, right?)

Links to LT31 and Longturn pages, forums, freeciv client software etc are easily compiled for those I'll try to recruit.

Trickier is what to write regarding the start of the game, estimates of the same or what pages to watch in order to get more precise information regarding game start once it is decided.

So, admins of longturn, what do you prefer I write regarding the start of the game in any player recruitment messages?

Best regards

/IllvilJa

Edit: Grammar (as usual)

LTeX should start sooner though i hope this weekend, but newcomers will not be allowed during the first 2 weeks, so quickly sign up. We got +1GB of memory on games5 (now 2GB) so we have room for those games now.
Can you confirm if I am reading this correctly: LT31 can be run on game5?

We should set a start date for LT31 "soon". LT30 is well past half way....

Yeah, I think LT30 was using 700 MB but my mate threw in another 1 GB stick during the server outage last week.

Hi all,

I'm back for a little game (don't tell my wife ;))

I can see there are still some old players here... Marduk still playing the Chinese, I bet MrSynical still names his cities MrSomething...
I'm dying to see how it works with so many players.
When i left, longturn games were limited to 30, if i remember well.

So, a few questions :
- When does the game begin ?
- Do we receive an email ?
- How many days does the first turn last ?

Best regards,

Not a lot has changed.

1. "soon" (i.e., when admin gets around to it). Probably weeks.
2. possibly if somebody gets around to it, but not guarenteed
3. first turn is usually ~3 days.

I tend to agree. I think we should figure out what we need to do with the LT30 ruleset to make it useable.

However, should really be when ever the admins have time to sort it out.

That'd take too long. I suggest we start LT31 very soon with the already-tested LT30 ruleset but with revised wonders as voted. If we decide that we like the LTex23b ruleset, we can apply it to LT32. (However, since the new ruleset has so many changes, it is very likely that there will be many changes that we won't like.)

The new ruleset we are playing in LteX2.3b (Civ2Civ3) really does look a lot better than the one we just finished playing (multiplayer). I would encourage those who are waiting for a game to give LteX a try.

It doesn't bother me if a new game started soon with the multiplayer ruleset because I wouldn't play it.
I am happy waiting for the first game to be played with the Civ2Civ3 ruleset. I prefer to wait because I do think bugs will be found.

Stay tuned, we're checking the ruleset and other issues, after that Dude could start the server soon.

Hello, I think I am getting longturn withdrawal symptoms as I cant wait for this to start again.
I also cant connect to the LTex game, is it still down or is it just me??
Quick! I think Im going to chew my own face off!

If its a time/admin issue I would gladly do more with rulesets but know nearly nothing about it. Any reccomendations for a good place to start?
For example how/where can I download the Multilplayer and LTex rulesets to adjust and test in single player games?

There's a link on the main LT page to the git repository. You will need to setup git and download LT branch from the repository.

I don't think LT31 will start any time soon. We have segmentation faults in LTeX, and there's not much point starting a new game for it to crash 2 months in.

Ok, thanks. I will amuse myself with that until the game is back up. Keep up the good work!

I have been working on it. I have set up the rulesets and what not. I'm having some trouble with applying patch 1850 for unreachable protects. Maybe somebody more skilled than me wants to take a look at it. =)

Some info:

New setting roadbuild: set to 4 hours (default). This is, as I understand it, time before turn change during which roads and rails cannot be built on territory not your own (other player's or unclaimed). I *think* this can be changed after game start.

- rapture delay = 3

- diplchance = 40

If there are any settings you want to change, now is the time to make polls. Settings which can be changed after game start are not such a big deal though.
